A former National Vice Chairman (North-West) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Salihu Lukman, has delivered a scathing assessment of Tinubu’s administration, saying the government’s much-touted Renewed Hope agenda has turned into “renewed anger” among Nigerians.
Speaking during an interview with Arise TV on Tuesday, Lukman accused the Tinubu-led government of failing to make a meaningful impact two years into its tenure. He said that from the early days of the administration, it was already clear that the president was veering off course.
“President Tinubu’s scorecard on his second anniversary is predictable; nothing has changed,” Lukman said. “Two months into this administration, I wrote an open letter to the President, highlighting the disturbing signals and raising alarms about how he is getting it wrong.”
Lukman, a former member of the APC’s National Working Committee, did not hold back in criticizing the party’s direction under Tinubu. He argued that recent political realignments and defections into the APC are not driven by any public interest but selfish ambition. “Those going into APC are doing so out of selfish interest, not interest of citizens or constituents,” he said.
According to him, despite the promises made during the 2023 campaign season, the government has failed to deliver on critical expectations, leaving citizens more frustrated than hopeful. “Nothing has come close so far to delivering on what we promised Nigerians,” Lukman stated. “His performance in the last 2 years has betrayed whatever expectations I have of him.”
Lukman’s comments add to the growing criticism from both within and outside the ruling party, as Tinubu’s administration continues to grapple with inflation, insecurity, and economic discontent. Observers say the outburst from a former APC insider further underscores internal dissatisfaction and the erosion of public trust.
