The Arewa Christian Youth Leadership Forum (ACYLF) on Sunday applauded the Presidency for its recent clarification affirming that Senator George Akume remains the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), following widespread rumours suggesting his replacement.
In a statement issued on Saturday and signed by Mr Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, the Presidency described the reports as “untrue” and the handiwork of “agents of mischief.” The ACYLF described the clarification as both “timely and necessary.”
Reacting to the development, Chairman of ACYLF, Mr Dunijir Gatama, said the confirmation not only upholds public trust but reinforces the Tinubu administration’s commitment to inclusive and equitable governance.
“We welcome the Presidency’s statement dismissing the false rumours regarding Senator Akume’s position. It is a timely intervention to uphold truth, public confidence, and national stability,” Gatama said.
Describing Senator Akume as “a prominent Northern statesman,” Gatama emphasised the importance of his continued role in government, especially as a representative voice for Northern minority Christian communities.
“Senator Akume’s presence as SGF is not just strategic—it’s deeply symbolic. It assures Northern Christians that their voice is part of the national dialogue, and that inclusiveness remains a guiding principle in this administration,” he noted.
He further commended Senator Akume’s performance in office, describing him as “a stabilising force in government.”
“His experience, maturity, and unflinching dedication to national service continue to be a great asset to President Tinubu’s administration and to the country as a whole,” Gatama stated.
The group also warned against the proliferation of fake news and misinformation, especially regarding sensitive issues of national importance.
“We urge media practitioners and the general public to verify information before dissemination. Misinformation like this not only breeds anxiety but also undermines the fragile unity of our diverse society,” Gatama cautioned.
While affirming support for Senator Akume, ACYLF called on the Presidency to sustain efforts toward inclusive leadership.
“We stand by Senator George Akume and commend the Presidency for maintaining a balanced approach in national appointments. We encourage continued vigilance in promoting unity, equity, and national cohesion,” the ACYLF chairman added.
The forum, known for advocating interfaith understanding and inclusive governance, pledged to continue supporting initiatives that strengthen Nigeria’s democratic institutions and reflect the nation’s rich diversity.
