The New Nigeria Movers on Monday called for the building of institutions that will improve safety, fellowship, union, and relationship among citizens to tackle the menace of mass killings and insecurity in the country.
According to Comrade Samuel Olaleye, President of NNM, “Overcoming mass killings and incessant waste of human life and property by terrorists in our country generally will require building up institutions around us that will improve safety, fellowship, union, and relationship with one another.”
Olaleye made the call in a statement mourning the loss of lives in Benue State and other parts of the country due to attacks by Fulani herdsmen terrorists. “Fellowship is one of the key elements to national progress and development. It occurs when citizens share their views together in an atmosphere of love and respect, and everyone communicates to one another in love for the progress of the country.”
He emphasized the importance of brotherly love and care, saying, “The oil of love must be kept afresh as of the day of our fathers. Love is friendship set on motion. It is a strong binding force that magnetises people together regardless of tribe or tongue and compelling them to make sacrifices for one another without any ulterior motive for gain or aggradisement.”
Olaleye also highlighted the need for systemic and lasting structures that will improve safety, relationship, union, economy, and democracy. “Culture has the power to stabilize or destabilize, reform, and deform a nation and people. However, the more we go deep in relationship with one another, the more we become united.”
He cited examples of leaders who had built institutions to address similar challenges in their time, saying, “The same challenge we have today was what happened on the day of George Washington, Napoleon Bonaparte, and Chairman Mao of China. The general decay in their day was alarming and widespread that it was almost difficult to trust one’s shadow, yet they took courage and resolve to change their situation by building institutions around them.”
