Senate President Godswill Akpabio, on Saturday called for unity among politicians, saying that the country would develop when sectional interests are removed.
Akpabio made this remark in Gombe International Conference Centre during the reception shortly after the wedding fatiha of daughter of Senator representing Gombe North, and former governor of the state, Ibrahim Dankwambo.

Our correspondent reports that the reception was hosted by Gombe State Government in honour of Dankwambo, a Peoples Democratic Party stalwart.
The wedding was between Hafsat Dankwambo and Ashraf Bello
According to the former Akwa Ibom State Governor, the function attracted no fewer than 70 lawmakers, stressing the importance of relationship.
He said, “Let me start by congratulating the two families; it’s our prayer that the marriage will be blessed and fruitful. I want to say that it’s the will of God for us to come to Gombe.”
Akpabio continued saying, “We see people including those from PDP, this is how leadership should be, we should be united. This marriage does not know political party, the Christians and Muslims believe in the oneness of God and God is love. Your excellency, I thank you for hosting us and I thank you for choosing us across political lines.”
On his part, Speaker House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, whole congratulating the pride and groom harped on the importance of love, unity.
“You need to have patience, understanding, transparency in all you do,” he added.
Former Senate President, Bukola Saraki, lauded the parents of the couple saying “let me congratulate the parents for the wedding, this man is a PDP senator and we are all here as one family to celebrate with their children.”
The host, Governor Muhammadu Yahaya, lauded the dignitaries for their attendance, adding that “the reception was organised to celebrate the young couple. We thank you all for coming.”
Father of the bride, Dankwambo hailed the state government describing the reception as rare privilege.
“I want to appreciate you for your support on behalf of the entire family, we don’t that it for granted,” he added.
