Following the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari, Bola Tinubu has directed Vice President Kashim Shettima to travel to London and oversee the return of Buhari’s remains to Nigeria.
Tinubu, in an official statement on Sunday, announced the passing of his predecessor, who died in London around 4:30 p.m. after a prolonged illness.
Tinubu has spoken with Mrs. Aisha Buhari, the late President’s widow, to express his heartfelt condolences.
He also instructed Shettima to immediately proceed to the United Kingdom to accompany Buhari’s body back home.
The late Buhari served as Nigeria’s elected President for two terms, in 2015 and 2023, and previously led the country as military Head of State from January 1984 to August 1985.
As a mark of respect, Tinubu has ordered that flags across the nation be flown at half-staff in honor of the departed leader.
