Former member of the House of Representatives for Wukari/Ibi Federal Constituency, Hon. Shiddi Danjuma Usman (Danji SS), has resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing loss of confidence in the party’s internal democracy and deviation from its founding ideals.
Shiddi, who represented the constituency in the 8th and 9th National Assembly, said his decision was the product of deep reflection.
In a telephone interview with journalists the two-term lawmaker said, “After deep thought and careful reflection, I resigned as a member of the All Progressives Congress. Since joining the APC in 2020, I have served with unwavering loyalty and commitment.
“Over time, I have come to terms with a difficult truth: there is a growing disconnect between my convictions, the realities I observe, and the actual needs of the people I represent.”
Shiddi, a strong contender for the Taraba South Senatorial seat in the last elections, said he enjoyed overwhelming support across the zone but was unjustly denied the party’s ticket due to internal wrangling.
Our correspondent reports that reports that Shidi was initially recognised by the APC as its senatorial candidate, but his nomination was challenged in court by Senator David Jimkuta, a rival aspirant, who alleged irregularities in the party’s primary election. The matter dragged up to the Supreme Court, which eventually ruled in favour of Jimkuta.
Reacting to the judgement, Shiddi said it was a miscarriage of justice of the people’s will.
“The people of Taraba South overwhelmingly voted for me, even across party lines. I defeated PDP’s candidate, former Governor Darius Ishaku, in nearly all local governments. But regrettably, politics within the APC denied the will of the people,” he said.
Despite the setback, Shiddi said he remains committed to public service and is consulting widely on his next political move.
“I am in active consultations, and I remain deeply connected to the hopes and yearnings of my people. They are strongly behind me, and I am determined to lead them to victory in 2027,” he stated.
The former lawmaker’s resignation is expected to alter the political landscape in Taraba State, especially in the southern senatorial zone where he commands considerable grassroots support and is regarded as a symbol of integrity and service delivery.
“I leave without bitterness, only with the belief that the next chapter must be written in alignment with the aspirations of those I serve. The struggle for justice, accountability, and development continues,” he added.
