The Gombe State Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Exceeda Construction Company Ltd for the restoration of historic earth buildings across the state.
This initiative marks a major stride in Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya’s continued commitment to preserving Gombe’s cultural heritage while promoting sustainable tourism.


The signing ceremony was officiated by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Professor Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi, with the Honourable Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Hon. Mijinyawa Tilde, representing the government.
Tilde, who also chairs the State Committee on Museum and Restoration of Historical Monuments, described the agreement as a transformative step toward safeguarding the architectural legacy of Gombe State.
“These buildings are far more than mere structures; they are living testimonies of our history, identity, and resilience,” said the Secretary to the State Government. “Restoring them is not just about preserving the past; it’s about unlocking their potential to inspire future generations and to serve as cultural landmarks that attract visitors, stimulate local economies, and position Gombe as a vibrant destination for heritage tourism.”
The event was attended by prominent government officials and stakeholders, including:

Alhaji Yaya Hammari – Member, State Committee on Museum and Monuments
Professor Muazu Shehu – Principal Private Secretary to Governor Inuwa Yahaya

Bala Sarki – Director, Security Services and Political Affairs
Exceeda Construction Ltd was represented by Arc. Huraira Umar Baba, alongside Engr. Sa’adatu Lawal Rumah and Barrister Yusrah Yusuf. Renowned for its expertise in monument architecture, restoration, and preservation, the company brings a wealth of experience in rehabilitating culturally significant structures while maintaining their historical integrity. Their involvement signals a strong technical foundation for the successful execution of the restoration project.
Under the terms of the MoU, the following heritage sites have been identified for restoration and adaptive re-purposing:
Old Native Authority Works Department (Gareji)
Gidan Magani
Gombe Native Authority Secretariat (Beit el Mali)
Tudun Hatsi Mosque
Old Staff Quarters of GSSS Gombe
These sites, each with unique historical and architectural significance, will be revitalized to serve educational, cultural, and tourism purposes while maintaining their original character and integrity.
The partnership with Exceeda Construction Company Ltd reflects the state’s broader vision to revive and celebrate its cultural assets. The restoration project is expected to generate employment, stimulate local economies, and position Gombe as a leading destination for heritage tourism in Nigeria.
