Gombe State University (GSU) has appointed Professor S. A. Yauta as its substantive Vice Chancellor.
The appointment, approved by Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya and conveyed through the University Governing Council, marks what officials described as “a historic moment” for the institution.
Until his confirmation, Prof. Yauta served as acting Vice Chancellor, during which he was credited with several initiatives aimed at strengthening academics, research, and innovation in the University.
Among his notable achievements are the commencement of academic activities at the newly established Faculty of Environmental Sciences in Dukku; creation of the Faculty of Agriculture in Malam Sidi, Kwami; and establishment of the Institute of Education in Gombe.
He also spearheaded preparations for the Smart Agricultural Farm Project on 365 hectares of land in Garin Tafida, Yamaltu-Deba, which is expected to serve as a hub for innovation, research, and practical training in modern agriculture.
The new Vice Chancellor was also said to have attracted the highest interventions in the University’s history while securing national and international collaborations to boost research and partnerships.
The Governing Council expressed appreciation to the Ministry of Higher Education, staff, students, and stakeholders for their support, and urged them to sustain their commitment to the growth of the institution.
Prof. Yauta’s appointment is expected to consolidate ongoing reforms and drive the University toward its mandate of academic excellence, research, and human capital development.
