The New Nigeria Movers has called on political leaders and the judiciary to shun practices that distort Nigeria’s administrative structures and justice system, warning that such perversions remain a major stumbling block to the nation’s progress.
In a statement signed on Monday by its President, Comrade Elder Samuel Olaleye, the group lamented what it described as the diversion of Nigeria’s governance and justice systems from the ideals laid down by the nation’s founding fathers.
Quoting Webster’s Dictionary, Olaleye explained perversion as “a diverting from the true intent or purpose; a change to something worse.” He argued that unlike the era of Nigeria’s past leaders who established fair and workable structures for national administration, successive military regimes and their legacies of “divide and rule” had corrupted those foundations.
“Our fathers and heroes past sat together in love and honesty to agree on a befitting administrative structure for the country. Unfortunately, the military governments altered this foundation, introducing unitary systems that still cripple us today,” the statement read.
The NNM further stressed that genuine democracy could not thrive where justice delivery was manipulated to favor individuals, political parties, or ethnic interests. It urged the judiciary to stand firm in protecting Nigerians from what it termed “a harmful justice delivery system” that erodes public trust.
“Every perversion—whether in governance, tradition, or justice—troubles the nation and its people. Our politicians and judiciary must help us build the Nigeria of our dreams by rejecting these distortions,” Olaleye added.
The group pledged continued advocacy for reforms that would restore honesty, fairness, and equity in Nigeria’s politics and governance.
The call was made ahead of the 2025 National Youth Summit, which the New Nigeria Movers is championing under the broader campaign themes: New Nigeria Movers, New Africa Movers, and New Nigeria Elites.
