The Gombe State Government has announced plans to host its maiden Health Summit, aimed at transforming healthcare delivery in the state.
Periscope Nigeria reports that the event, scheduled for October 2–3, 2025, will take place at the International Conference Centre, Gombe.

Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya will host the summit, which is expected to bring together policymakers, health professionals, civil society organisations, development partners, and subject-matter experts from across Nigeria and beyond.
The Commissioner for Health, Dr Habu Dahiru, who disclosed this in a press briefing on Wednesday, said the summit will provide a platform to showcase reforms, policies, and projects that have repositioned the state’s health sector.
“The Health Summit will not only allow us to deliberate on challenges and opportunities in our healthcare system but also give us the chance to highlight the remarkable strides we have made in policy, reforms, and service delivery,” Dahiru said.
According to him, the theme of the summit is “Transforming the Health System in Gombe State:Accomplishments, Challenges, and the Next Frontier.”
Sub-themes will focus on financing health in the midst of donor uncertainty, optimising human resources for health, and building stronger partnerships and collaborations to accelerate universal health coverage.
The two-day summit will feature guest speaker presentations, technical sessions, and panel discussions. A key highlight will be the launch of the Gombe State Human Resource Policy and Strategy document, designed to strengthen the state’s health workforce.
Dahiru added that several health legacy projects will be commissioned during the period. These include the Federal Medical Centre, Kumo; the SDG Women and Children Hospital, Mallam Inna, Gombe; and the College of Nursing and Midwifery, Gombe. The state will also launch the “Flow with Confidence” Initiative, a program designed to support menstrual health management and empower young girls.
The Commissioner announced that Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, and the United Nations Deputy Secretary-General, Amina Mohammed, will headline the event and commission projects.
“Their presence underscores the importance of Gombe’s health reforms and the state’s growing recognition as a model for innovation in healthcare,” Dahiru stated.
