The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, on Monday flagged off the construction of a new road linking Bill Clinton Drive at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport to Tunga Madaki community in Abuja.

The project, which is expected to connect 10 communities to the airport road and later extend to Zuba Road, is part of commitments made to residents who gave up their land for the construction of the airport’s second runway.
Speaking at the ceremony in Abuja on September 29, Wike explained that the road was a direct response to the demands of the affected communities and a fulfillment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s pledge.
“One of the things the communities asked for is that they had to be connected and linked up with roads. It would be quite unfair that their land was collected for a second runway, yet they have no access to even go to the airport. It does not make sense. I had to take this matter to the President, and Mr. President said, ‘Whatever they ask for, give it to them’,” Wike said.
The minister described the road as a key component of President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, stressing that the administration was demonstrating that it listens and responds to citizens’ needs.
“For the first time in your life, you have come to a government, and the government said, what do you want? The only request you have made is a reasonable request. We must attend to you, and today we are attending to you,” Wike said. “What does this show? It shows you that the government of Mr. President, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is a listening government, a government that cares for the people, and a government that fulfils its promises.”
Wike expressed optimism that the project would be completed and commissioned in June 2026 to coincide with the third anniversary of the Tinubu administration.
He also urged the benefiting communities to support the Chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Christopher Maikalangu, whom he credited for persistently championing their case.
“Remember the man who remembered you during the rainy season,” the minister told the residents.
The flag-off marks the sixth project launch within six days by the FCT Administration as part of ongoing infrastructure development across the territory.
