The Federal Government is facing salary payment delays for federal civil servants in about 12 ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs).
PERISCOPE NIGERIA gathered that the delay, which was initially expected to last from September to December 2025, is due to budgetary constraints arising from the recent implementation of a new minimum wage. Specifically, the payment of a 40% CONPSS Peculiar Allowance, which was not initially budgeted for, has led to a temporary halt in salary disbursements.
The affected MDAs are expected to have their salaries augmented from the Service-Wide Vote, while the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation has assured that payments will be made once funds are available.
Some civil servants expressed concern over the situation, citing difficulties in meeting daily expenses and fears about the long-term impact on their financial stability.
In a related development, the Federal Government has introduced a new salary structure for civil servants, with annual salaries ranging from ₦930,000 to ₦6,918,560, depending on grade level. The new minimum wage stands at ₦70,000 per month (₦840,000 per year) for entry-level positions.
It is worth noting that some sources have indicated the issue may already have been resolved and that affected civil servants will receive their salaries soon, although the exact payment date remains unclear.
