The Gombe State Government has received a consignment of medical equipment from the North-East Development Commission, as part of the commission’s efforts to support the state government’s commitment to providing quality healthcare services to its citizens.
The items were presented by the State Coordinator of the NEDC, Architect Usman Mohammed, to the Deputy Governor of Gombe State, Dr Manassah Jatau, at the deputy governor’s office.
Presenting the items, Mohammed explained that the consignment, which includes consumable and non-consumable medical equipment, was provided following a needs assessment that identified gaps in medical infrastructure and service delivery across the state.
He noted that while the NEDC is involved in various human and infrastructural development projects, the current intervention focuses specifically on healthcare to bridge identified gaps in the sector.
According to him, “the commission has previously executed several health-related interventions in Gombe State, including medical outreaches, capacity building and the provision of health equipment, all in alignment with the Federal Government’s renewed agenda for improved health service delivery—a vision which the Gombe State Government has fully keyed into.”
Mohammed urged the state government, through the Ministry of Health and other relevant agencies, to ensure that the intended beneficiaries derive maximum benefit from the gesture. He also commended the working cordial relationship between the NEDC and the Gombe State Government and pledged the commission’s continued support to the state for the overall well-being of its people.
Receiving the items Jatau, expressed appreciation to the NEDC for complementing the state’s efforts in improving healthcare delivery.
He emphasised that health remains a critical sector that can not be neglected, adding “its significant in driving other aspects of socio-economic development. The administration’s commitment to enhancing healthcare access by ensuring that each of the 114 wards in the state has two functional Primary Health Care Centres.”
He highlighted that Gombe State has won several national and international awards in healthcare delivery and assured that the government will continue to do more to improve the well-being of its citizens.
Jatau also extended appreciation to former President Muhammadu Buhari for establishing the NEDC, and to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for sustaining it. He further commended the Chairman of the NEDC Board, Gen. Paul Tarfa (Rtd), the Managing Director, Alh. Mohammed Goni Alkali and his management through the State Coordinator, Arc. Usman Mohammed, for their dedication to the commission’s mandate.
He assured that the Gombe State Government will continue to partner with the NEDC and expressed optimism that future requests by the state will receive favorable consideration.
In his remarks, the Commissioner for Health, Dr Habu Dahiru, represented by the Executive Secretary of the Gombe State Hospital Management Board, Dr Abdulkadir Bello, thanked the NEDC for the medical equipment and described the donation as a demonstration of the commission’s genuine concern for improved service delivery.
