…Describes the late evangelist as an icon whose legacy transcended borders
Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, on Tuesday paid a condolence visit to the family of the late renowned evangelist, Rev. (Dr.) Uma Ukpai, founder and president of the Uma Ukpai Evangelistic Association.

The governor, accompanied by members of the State Executive Council, visited the Ukpai family residence to commiserate with them over the passing of the cleric, who was widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s foremost evangelists and a pillar of Christian faith and leadership.
Speaking during the visit, Governor Eno described Rev. Ukpai as “an icon and a rare gem whose impact transcended borders.” He said the late evangelist’s contributions to evangelism, spiritual growth, and humanitarian causes would remain indelible in the hearts of millions of people within and outside Nigeria.
“Rev. Dr. Uma Ukpai was not just a man of God; he was a national treasure whose ministry brought light and hope to countless homes,” the governor said. “His life was a testimony of faith, service, and unwavering commitment to God and humanity. We have lost a great servant of God, but his legacy will continue to inspire generations.”
Governor Eno, himself a pastor before assuming office, commended the late cleric for using his platform to promote unity among Christians and to mentor young ministers across denominational lines. He assured the bereaved family of the Akwa Ibom State Government’s full support to ensure a befitting farewell for the late evangelist.
“We will stand with the family and the church to celebrate the life of this remarkable man. The State Government will play its part to ensure his passing is honored in the manner befitting of his enormous contribution to our state and the Christian community,” Eno pledged.
Rev. (Dr.) Uma Ukpai, who passed away recently, was the founder of the Uma Ukpai Evangelistic Association, a global Christian organization known for its soul-winning missions, healing crusades, and empowerment initiatives. For more than five decades, he preached the gospel across continents and was deeply respected across denominational boundaries for his simplicity, faith, and devotion to God’s work.
Christian leaders and faithful across Nigeria have continued to pay tribute to the late cleric, describing him as a trailblazer whose ministry transformed lives and strengthened the body of Christ.
Governor Eno’s visit, observers say, reflects the deep respect and recognition the Akwa Ibom Government accords to the contributions of faith leaders who have played key roles in shaping the moral and spiritual fabric of society.
Rev. Ukpai is survived by his wife, Pastor (Dr.) Mrs. Philomena Uma Ukpai, children, grandchildren, and thousands of spiritual sons and daughters across the world.
Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by the family in due course.
