Popular Nigerian activist and social commentator, Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has stirred fresh debate over the cost of tricycles in Nigeria following his recent visit to a major tricycle manufacturing plant in China.

Responding to concerns raised by one of his followers, who complained that tricycles are being sold for as high as ₦7 million in Nigeria, VDM toured one of China’s largest factories to uncover the true cost of production.
In a video shared on his social media platforms, VDM showcased the manufacturing process of different tricycle models, from assembly to finishing, highlighting the features of modern versions.
According to him, a brand-new tricycle in China costs about ₦3.5 million — significantly lower than the prices charged by local dealers in Nigeria. He also noted that the Chinese models are of superior quality, featuring a front windscreen, fan, and Bluetooth connectivity.
VDM’s revelation has sparked reactions among Nigerians, with many calling for a review of import costs, dealer markups, and government policies affecting the pricing of commercial tricycles in the country.
