The Gombe State Police Command on Thursday joined other commands across the country in marking the 2025 Police Customer Service Week with the theme “Mission Possible.”

The event, held at the State Police Headquarters Conference Hall, Gombe, brought together critical stakeholders from different sectors of society for an interactive engagement session on strengthening police-community relations.

Declaring the event open, the Commissioner of Police, CP Bello Yahaya, psc+, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to delivering professional and people-oriented policing services in line with the vision of the Inspector-General of Police.

“The Gombe State Police Command remains steadfast in its mission to serve the people with integrity, transparency, and professionalism,” Yahaya said. “We believe that effective policing depends on active collaboration with the public, and that is why feedback like this is essential in building mutual trust.”

The Commissioner emphasized that the Command would continue to prioritize community engagement and public feedback as key strategies for improving service delivery.

During the interactive session, stakeholders commended the Command’s proactive approach to security while also calling for improved welfare for officers.

The Secretary of Jama’atul Nasarul Islam (JNI) in Gombe State, Alhaji Saleh Danburam, said,

“The police have done well in maintaining peace, but we must also ensure that their welfare and accommodation are improved so they can perform even better.”

Similarly, the Deputy Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Gombe Chapter, Apostle Hopeland Abraham, urged the Command to sustain its cooperation with religious bodies and community leaders in promoting peace and understanding among residents.

The State Chairman of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), Comrade Garba Ubale, also called for better logistics and modern operational equipment for police officers, noting that such provisions would enhance public confidence in policing.

On his part, the Chairman of the Okada Riders Association, Gombe State Chapter, Kabiru Jafaru, praised the Command’s decision to restrict motorcycle movement at night, describing it as a major step toward reducing crime.

“The night restriction has helped protect the lives and property of our members and the general public,” he said. “We appreciate the police for implementing such preventive measures.”

Also speaking, the Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Gombe Branch, Barr. Alhassan Mu’azu, lauded the Command’s role in maintaining law and order, which, he noted, has improved the effectiveness of the judiciary.

“We are seeing the positive impact of improved security on court operations,” Mu’azu said. “The collaboration between the police and the legal community is vital, and we are ready to continue providing legal clarifications that can aid justice delivery.”

CP Yahaya thanked participants for their “candid and constructive contributions,” assuring them that all issues raised would receive due attention.

“We will continue to strengthen our partnership with stakeholders to ensure a safer Gombe State,” he said. “Our commitment to transparency, accountability, and community partnership remains unwavering.”
