As part of efforts to mitigate the suffering of people affected by disasters, the North East Development Commission (NEDC), in collaboration with the Gombe State Emergency Management Agency (GOSEMA), has distributed relief materials to flood victims in Kwami and Gombe Local Government Areas of the state.
Presenting the items, the NEDC Coordinator in Gombe State, Architect Usman Mohammed, sympathized with the affected persons and commended SEMA for its timely assessment and prompt submission of reports, which facilitated the Commission’s intervention.

Architect Mohammed highlighted some of the Commission’s interventions, which include the provision of humanitarian support, educational assistance, healthcare services, and physical infrastructure aimed at fostering sustainable development across the North-East subregion.
He emphasized that communities affected by infrastructural deficits would continue to receive attention from the Commission once proper documentation and reports are submitted, urging beneficiaries to make effective and judicious use of the items to improve their well-being.
In his remarks, the Executive Secretary of the Gombe State Emergency Management Agency, Alhaji Abdullahi Haruna Abdullahi, assured that the agency would continue to work closely with relevant bodies to provide the necessary support to disaster victims.
Abdullahi appreciated Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya for his consistent and timely interventions in disaster-related matters, and commended the NEDC for its swift response following the submission of SEMA’s assessment report after the incident was reported by local authorities.
Also speaking, the Chairman of Kwami Local Government Council, Dr. Ahmed Wali Doho, expressed appreciation to both the NEDC and SEMA for their timely intervention. He assured that the relief materials would be distributed strictly to the verified victims identified during the assessment exercise.

Dr. Doho warned beneficiaries against selling the items, stressing that the support was meant to cushion the impact of the flood disaster on their livelihoods.
The NEDC team also visited Gombe Local Government Area for a similar presentation.
Receiving the team on behalf of the Local Government Chairman, the Deputy Chairman, Barrister Sani Ahmadu Haruna, commended both NEDC and SEMA for their continued commitment to the welfare of people in distress.
The relief materials, comprising both food and non-food items, were aimed at alleviating the sufferings of the affected persons.
