The Federal Ministry of Education has ordered the immediate closure of forty-seven (47) Federal Unity Colleges across the country following heightened security concerns in several regions.

In a circular issued from the Office of the Director, Senior Secondary Education Department, the Ministry said the decision became necessary “sequel to the recent security challenges in some parts of the country and the need to prevent any security breaches.”

According to the circular signed by Hajia Binta Abdulkadir, Director of Senior Secondary Education, and communicated on behalf of the Honourable Minister of Education, the shutdown takes effect immediately and principals of the affected colleges must enforce the directive without delay.
“The Honourable Minister of Education has approved the immediate closure of the listed Federal Unity Colleges (FUCs) with immediate effect,” the circular stated. “Principals of affected Colleges are to ensure strict compliance.”
The Ministry noted that the measure is a proactive step to ensure the safety of students, teachers, and school infrastructure while the government works with security agencies to stabilize the affected areas.
