A lecturer at the Federal University of Kashere and immediate past Chairperson of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), FUK branch, Dr Salihu Jiddah, has donated over 250 blackcurrant seedlings to the Gombe Goes Green (3G) Taskforce.
The donation, which took place at Dr. Jiddah’s residence in Gombe, is aimed at bolstering the state’s ongoing afforestation campaign—an initiative aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Dr. Jiddah, who was represented by Mr Muhammad Buhari of the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA), urged them to utilise the donation for the good of the state.

Speaking during the handover, Mr Muazu Garba, the Special Adviser on Environment and Ecology to the Governor, who represented the 3G Taskforce Chairman, commended Dr. Jiddah for his gesture.
“This is a noble act that reflects true patriotism and shared responsibility for a greener, healthier Gombe. The seedlings will be integrated into the state’s afforestation programme championed by His Excellency, Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, CON, to combat deforestation, restore biodiversity, and promote a sustainable environment for future generations,” he said.
He added that the contribution demonstrates how collaboration between individuals and government can make a lasting impact, emphasising that “together, we can make Gombe truly green and climate-resilient.”
He noted that the donation is a long-standing commitment to environmental causes.
“This year alone, Dr Jiddah has planted and distributed over 500 seedlings to individuals, places of worship, and now the Gombe State Government. We are determined to double efforts in the coming years and expand this initiative to neighbouring states, in partnership with the Gombe State Government,” he said.
He also encouraged interested individuals and institutions to participate in the next planting season by booking their requests for seedlings in advance.
“Those interested in joining the initiative or seeking seedlings can reach Dr. Salihu Adam Jiddah via phone at 08066738811 or email mailjiddah@gmail.com,” he added.
