The Senior District Head of Kwami, Alhaji Aminu Abdullahi, on Friday restated his firm commitment to supporting the fight against Gender-Based Violence (GBV) within his district.


Hosting the Gombe State First Lady’s GBV sensitisation team at his palace in Malam Sidi, the district head who doubles as Ajiyan Gombe praised the visit, describing it as “timely and crucial in addressing the rising concerns of violence against women and children.”





He assured the delegation of his full collaboration, noting that “our communities must unite to protect the vulnerable.”
Representing the First Lady, Hajiya Asma’u Yahaya, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Asma’u Mohammed Iganus, explained that the campaign team was set up to distribute the Child Rights Law to traditional leaders and inaugurate a 15-member committee at the ward level.

According to her, “traditional institutions are key partners in ensuring the proper implementation of the Child Rights Law. Without their cooperation, the fight against GBV cannot succeed.”
The acting Permanent Secretary of the Ministry for Women Affairs, Hajiya Fatima Abubakar, and a Director in the Ministry, Malam Mohammed Abubakar Kumo, both highlighted that the campaign team is visiting all eleven local government areas.

“We are on this tour to strengthen awareness and encourage communities to take ownership of the Child Rights Law,” Abubakar said.
Chairman of the Gombe State House Committee on Women Affairs, Mr Gabriel Galadima Barden Kaltungo, emphasised the critical role of traditional rulers, noting that “they remain the most respected authorities in our communities, and their influence is vital for the success of this campaign.” He urged them to offer full cooperation to ensure the message reaches every household.

Wife Chairman of Kwami Local Government Area, Hajiya Hajara Wali, pledged to strengthen local efforts to eliminate GBV, lauding the delegation.
