The All Progressives Congress, Gombe State Chapter, has expressed concern over a viral video showing an assault involving Adamu Abdullahi Danko, an aide in the Office of the Chief of Staff, and Abdulrahman Abubakar, a serving councillor, both members of the party.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the State Publicity Secretary of the party, Moses Kyari, said the development was “deeply troubling and completely unacceptable.”
“The APC Gombe State Chapter unequivocally condemns all forms of violence and unlawful conduct. What is seen in the viral video runs contrary to the values, discipline, and democratic culture that our party represents,” Kyari said.
He announced that the party has immediately commenced a comprehensive internal investigation, adding that all individuals involved have been summoned.
“We have launched a thorough internal investigation and invited the parties concerned in order to ascertain both the immediate and underlying causes of this incident. This step is necessary to uphold accountability, protect the integrity of the APC, and prevent a recurrence,” he stated.
Kyari was emphatic that the party neither authorised nor condoned the action, stressing that the aide acted entirely on his own.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the APC categorically affirms that the action in question was taken solely at the individual’s own volition. He took the law into his own hands without any instruction, approval, or authorisation from the party or any government office. Such conduct is wholly unacceptable and will not be tolerated under any circumstance,” he said.
The APC spokesperson also commended the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Alhaji Abubakar Inuwa Kari, for swiftly suspending the aide pending the outcome of investigations.
“We commend the Chief of Staff for his prompt decision to suspend the aide involved. This action demonstrates a clear commitment to discipline, responsibility, and justice,” Kyari noted.
According to him, the party’s investigation will be transparent and guided strictly by party rules and the law.
“The ongoing investigation will be thorough and transparent, and will be conducted in line with the APC Constitution, relevant laws, and established procedures. All material facts will be examined, including the circumstances leading to the incident and the audio message alleged to have triggered the altercation,” he said.
Kyari assured that anyone found culpable would face appropriate sanctions.
“Any individual found culpable at any stage will be sanctioned strictly in accordance with party regulations and the law,” he warned.
He further reassured the public, civil society groups, and human rights organisations of the party’s commitment to justice and due process.
“The APC Gombe State Chapter is deeply troubled by this development. We remain firmly committed to accountability, due process, and the protection of human rights,” Kyari said.
The party, he added, would cooperate fully with security and lawful authorities, while urging the public to remain calm.
“We will cooperate fully with all lawful authorities and take decisive internal measures to enforce discipline. We urge the public to remain calm and exercise restraint as investigations continue,” he appealed.
Kyari reaffirmed the APC’s commitment to peaceful political engagement and the rule of law.
“The APC remains steadfast in its commitment to peaceful engagement, respect for human rights, and strict adherence to the rule of law, both in word and in deed. Further updates will be provided as the process unfolds,” he concluded.
