At least one corpse has been discovered in the bush while another victim died in the hospital, following Wednesday morning’s militia attack on returning Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Tse Ajogo village of Wukari LGA in Taraba State.

PERISCOPE NIGERIA reports that militia suspected to be Fulani, in the company of Jukun youths, attacked and killed 17 returning IDPs in Tse Ajogo on Wednesday.

Eyewitnesses who narrowly escaped death told Nigerian Tribune that eight people were injured in the attack, many others are still missing, and seven houses were burnt down. With the latest discoveries, the death toll has now risen to 19, while search efforts continue for missing persons.

However, the Taraba State Police Command, through its PPRO, DSP Victor Mshelizah, said the command was yet to receive an official report of the killings from the Wukari Division.

“I have contacted the DPO in Wukari after receiving calls from different people about the attack, but he said he has no knowledge of the development. We cannot act until we get a report from the DPO to authenticate how true the development is before we can take action,” he said.
