Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Yahaya, on Tuesday congratulated a former Commissioner for Agriculture and Animal Husbandry in the state, Mohammed Gettado Magaji, on his emergence as the National President of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN).

Magaji was elected along with a 27-member National Executive Council during the association’s national congress held at the 2025 National Agricultural Showground in Nasarawa State, following resolutions adopted by the General Assembly of Farmers.
In a statement issued by his Director-General of Press Affairs, Ismaila Misilli, Governor Yahaya described Magaji’s emergence as “a source of pride for the government and people of Gombe State,” noting that his elevation reflects years of dedicated service to agriculture at both state and national levels.
According to the governor, “Hon. Magaji is a round peg in a round hole. His track record speaks for him — from serving as Chairman of the Gombe State House of Assembly Committee on Agriculture, to Commissioner of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry, and later National Publicity Secretary of AFAN.”
He expressed confidence that the new AFAN president will deploy his “experience, capacity and national network” to unite farmers across Nigeria and support the Federal Government’s agricultural transformation and food security agenda under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope programme.
Governor Yahaya said, “Hon. Mohammed Magaji’s leadership comes at a time when Nigeria is intensifying efforts to boost food production, strengthen value chains and enhance farmers’ livelihoods. We are confident that his tenure will contribute significantly to these national goals.”
He assured Magaji of the support and goodwill of the Gombe State Government and people as he assumes his new role at the helm of the country’s largest farmers’ body.
