The Gombe Network of Civil Society Organisations on Friday strongly condemned the brutal assault on a serving councillor in Gombe State, describing the incident as barbaric and a serious violation of human rights.

The attack, which reportedly occurred on the streets of Gombe metropolis, has gone viral on social media, sparking widespread outrage among residents and civil society groups.
In a statement signed by its Chairman, Ibrahim Yusuf, GONET said the assault on an elected public official was “unconscionable” and posed a threat to democratic values and the rule of law.
“The attack on a serving councillor is barbaric, unacceptable, and a grave violation of human rights and human dignity,” Yusuf stated.
GONET called on security agencies and relevant authorities to conduct a thorough, transparent, and impartial investigation into the incident.
“We demand a swift and comprehensive investigation, and we urge the authorities to apprehend and prosecute the perpetrators to the fullest extent of the law,” the statement read. “Justice must be served to deter similar acts in the future.”
The civil society network reaffirmed its commitment to peace, accountability, and the protection of fundamental rights in the state.
“GONET remains unwavering in its commitment to promoting peace, tranquility, and the rule of law in Gombe State,” Yusuf added. “We will continue to speak out against any act that undermines human rights, dignity, or integrity, and we will hold all actors accountable without exception.”
The group urged residents to remain calm while allowing lawful processes to take their course, emphasizing that violence in any form has no place in a democratic society.
