The National Association of Nigerian Students has lauded the Department of State Services (DSS) for its swift intervention in the power supply dispute between the Jos Electricity Distribution Company (JEDC) and the Federal Teaching Hospital, Gombe (FTHG).

In a statement issued on Tuesday, NANS said the timely involvement of the DSS helped to de-escalate tensions, protect critical public infrastructure, and ensure the continuity of essential healthcare services relied upon by thousands of Nigerians, including students undergoing medical and allied health training.
“The uninterrupted operation of a tertiary healthcare institution is non-negotiable, as it directly affects human lives and public safety,” the association stated.
NANS also commended the management of JEDC and the Federal Teaching Hospital, Gombe, for what it described as maturity, responsibility, and leadership in resolving the dispute in the overall interest of the public.
Speaking on behalf of the association, the Financial Secretary of NANS, Muhammad Garba, praised JEDC for restoring power supply to the hospital.
“JEDC demonstrated a commendable level of maturity by reconnecting electricity to the Federal Teaching Hospital, Gombe, placing human lives and public welfare above all other considerations,” Garba said.
He further lauded the management of FTH Gombe for its cooperation and leadership throughout the resolution process.
“We also applaud the management of the Federal Teaching Hospital, Gombe, for showing commitment, cooperation, and responsibility in ensuring that the matter was resolved amicably without further disruption to healthcare delivery,” he added.
NANS urged all relevant stakeholders to maintain constructive dialogue and mutual respect to prevent similar disruptions in the future.
“As an association, we reaffirm our unwavering commitment to the welfare of Nigerian students, the protection of public institutions, and the promotion of the national interest at all times,” Garba said.
