The 2023 governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Gombe State, Jibrin Barde, has defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 general election.

Barde made the disclosure on Tuesday night at his residence, where he displayed his ADC membership card, stating that he had come to revalidate his membership.
According to him, he left the PDP in early 2025, stressing that his priority is to rescue Gombe State from being led by what he described as business interests.
“As you are aware, there has been a mass movement across the country, which we gave the slogan ‘Salon Tafiya’. We have been working on this with our leaders across the country, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former governors, and ministers. This movement is aimed at rescuing the country from the current situation of insecurity, economic hardship, and lack of infrastructure,” he said.
He added, “It is important that we come home to revalidate our membership and registration. We are committed to this journey, and now is the time to revalidate our membership.”
Speaking on unity of purpose, Barde said the group is fully committed to rescuing the state, citing the poor state of infrastructure and insecurity.
“As you can see, there is a dearth of infrastructure and insecurity. This level of irresponsibility is what we want to combat in the state. We want to provide purposeful leadership, give everyone the opportunity to succeed, and improve education not one controlled by an individual or group that runs the state like a limited liability company,” he stated.
Explaining his choice of ADC, Barde said the party represents a new era and called on others to join.
“What we want to do now is to revalidate our membership under a new era, and for those who are not members, we call on them to join ADC so that we can push out this irresponsible government,” he said.
He also urged residents of the state to stop selling their votes.
“Do not collect pasta or N500 to sell your votes. These are important lessons to learn. You must see the consequences. If we take over governance, we will not be where we are today. Governance is not about an individual, but a collective effort toward ensuring a just and egalitarian society,” Barde said.
