The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has recorded a significant political boost in Nsit Ibom Local Government Area with the formal defection of Hon Dr Ukana Bassey, a prominent indigene of the area and a United States-based medical doctor.

Our correspondent reports that the renowned medical practitioner was a former House of Assembly member in the state.

Dr. Bassey officially joined the ADC on Saturday, receiving his party membership card at Asang Ward 2, Nsit Ibom LGA, amid cheers from party faithful and community members who gathered to witness the development.

Speaking during the brief reception, party leaders described Dr. Bassey’s decision to join the ADC as timely and strategic, noting that his professional background, international exposure and commitment to grassroots development would add value to the party’s vision in Akwa Ibom State.
The Director-General of ATM and ADC Leader, Don-P Original, in a press statement made available to Periscope Nigeria, congratulated Dr. Bassey on his decision and welcomed him into the ADC family.
He described the new entrant as a respected technocrat and community leader whose wealth of experience in the medical profession would contribute meaningfully to people-oriented policies and leadership.
According to the statement, Dr Bassey’s entry into the ADC signals growing confidence in the party’s ideology, which focuses on good governance, accountability, social justice and inclusive development. The party leadership expressed optimism that his presence would further strengthen ADC’s structure at the ward, local government and state levels.
Party supporters at the event expressed excitement over the development, describing it as a sign of “better days ahead” for the ADC in Nsit Ibom and beyond, especially as preparations intensify for future political engagements.
The ADC leadership reaffirmed its commitment to building a strong grassroots movement across Akwa Ibom State, urging more professionals, youths and community leaders to join hands in advancing the party’s vision for sustainable development and improved welfare of the people.
Meanwhile, Bassey expressed enthusiasm that the ADC will take over power from the All Progressives Congress in 2027, saying “ADC will take over Akwaibom come 2027.”
