The Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has commenced academic activities at Northwest University, Kano, after enrolling as a 200-level student in the institution’s Law programme.

The monarch was seen attending lectures alongside other undergraduates on Tuesday, dressed in a black flowing gown and white turban, drawing attention across campus. His return to the classroom follows the university’s recent decision to grant him special admission into its Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) programme, with a focus on Common and Sharia Law.
University officials said the admission was approved in recognition of Sanusi’s extensive experience in governance, economics, and public service. The former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria holds a doctorate degree and has remained a strong advocate for education, intellectual engagement, and social reform.
Founded in 2012, Northwest University is one of two state-owned universities in Kano State. Emir Sanusi’s presence on campus has sparked public interest, with many describing his decision to pursue further studies as a reflection of lifelong learning and commitment to knowledge, despite his status and past achievements.
