FG enforces ‘no work, no pay’ for striking JOHESU members

The Federal Ministry of Health has issued a “no work, no pay” directive to all Chief Medical Directors (CMDs) and Medical Directors (MDs) of federal government hospitals, affecting striking members of the Joint Health Sector Unions (JOHESU).

In a circular dated January 8, 2026, and signed by Abisola Adegoke, Director of Hospital Services, on behalf of the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Ali Pate, the ministry stressed the importance of maintaining essential services during the ongoing labour action.

The circular stated that the “no work, no pay” rule would take effect from January 2026.

“You are to ensure the provision of critical services such as accident and emergency, labour, and intensive care units, among others, by all legal means, including the employment of locum staff,” the circular read.
