No fewer than four persons have been confirmed dead following a fatal multiple-vehicle accident involving a water tanker, a tricycle (Keke NAPEP), and two motorcycles along the Biu Road Bypass in Gombe, on Friday morning.

The incident occurred at about 8:00am near Dan ’Amar Car Wash, according to the Senior Special Assistant on Security Matters and Intergovernmental Affairs, Amb. Yusuf Danbayo, who led the emergency response to the scene.

“The accident involved a water tanker truck, a Keke NAPEP, and two motorcycles. Sadly, five persons lost their lives, while others sustained serious injuries,” Danbayo said.
He explained that eyewitnesses reported the tricycle and the tanker were moving in the same direction when the crash occurred.

“The tricycle rider allegedly attempted a sudden turn-back manoeuvre. The tanker rammed into it from behind, lost control, and then collided with two oncoming motorcycles,” he stated.

The tanker, a blue and black vehicle with registration number JAL 190 YF, was reportedly driven by Ibrahim Mohammed, 22, and had three conductors on board. The tricycle rider was identified as Yaya Mohammed, 25, while the motorcycles were ridden by Abdullahi Abubakar, 24, and Adamu Mohammed, 27.

Among the victims were two pillion passengers, Musa Sulaiman, 16, and Usman Umar, 26. Another male victim is yet to be identified.
Providing an update on casualties, Danbayo said, “Adamu Mohammed, Musa Sulaiman, Usman Umar, and one unidentified male were confirmed dead by medical doctors. Abdullahi Abubakar is currently receiving treatment at the Specialist Hospital, Gombe.”

He added that all victims were immediately evacuated to the hospital for urgent medical attention, “The matter has been reported to the relevant traffic and security authorities and investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the crash,” Danbayo said.

He urged road users to exercise caution, especially on major bypass roads, to prevent avoidable loss of lives.
