Gombe State has recorded a rise in Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), growing collections from ₦6.8 billion in 2019 to an all-time high of about ₦40.8 billion in 2025 under the administration of Governor Muhammadu Yahaya.
The revenue milestone represents nearly a 500 per cent increase within six years and almost doubles the ₦20.7 billion generated in 2024. It also exceeds the state’s 2025 revenue target of about ₦25.7 billion by an impressive 158 per cent.
Revealing the figures on Sunday, the Chairman of the Gombe State Internal Revenue Service (GIRS), Aisha Adamu, attributed the sustained growth to deliberate reforms and strong political will by the Inuwa Yahaya administration.
“Since His Excellency assumed office in 2019, the state has witnessed consistent and sustained growth in revenue generation,” Adamu said, noting that the momentum became more pronounced following her appointment as GIRS Chairman in 2023.
She explained that revenue performance has continued to improve year-on-year.
“From ₦15.18 billion in 2023, we recorded ₦20.72 billion in 2024. In just one year, our performance doubled, as we achieved over ₦40 billion in Internally Generated Revenue in 2025,” she stated.
According to her, the impressive growth aligns with the administration’s commitment to strengthening revenue collection systems, expanding the tax base, and improving taxpayer compliance across the state.
She commended Governor Inuwa Yahaya for his consistent support to the revenue authority, stressing that fiscal discipline and efficient governance remain central to his administration’s economic strategy.
“The latest revenue milestone is clear evidence of the Governor’s sound economic policies and strategic investments in revenue administration,” Adamu said.
The GIRS Chairman further disclosed that the increased revenue inflow would enable the state government to expand social infrastructure, improve public service delivery, and fund critical development projects with direct impact on the lives of residents.
Looking ahead, she assured that the revenue service would consolidate the gains recorded and continue to raise the bar.
“As we move into 2026, we are confident that with the continued support of His Excellency and the cooperation of the good people of Gombe State, we will achieve even higher revenue performance in our collective drive to make Gombe State greater,” she added.
