The Gombe State Executive Council has approved the state’s participation in a regional airline project proposed by governors of the North-East states, with Gombe committing ₦5 billion as its equity contribution.
Governor Muhammadu Yahaya, presided over the 51st SEC meeting.
Briefing journalists after the council meeting on Wednesday, the Commissioner for Finance and Economic Development, Muhammad Magaji, said the initiative is aimed at improving air connectivity within and outside the North-East sub-region, while also stimulating economic growth.
“The governors of the North-East have agreed to float a regional airline that will enhance interconnectivity within the sub-region and beyond, as well as promote economic development,” he said.
According to him, each participating state is expected to contribute ₦5 billion, adding that the Gombe State Executive Council has approved the release of the state’s share.
“Council has approved Gombe State’s commitment of ₦5 billion as its contribution to the regional airline project,” Magaji stated.
The commissioner also announced that the council approved the sum of ₦2.1 billion for the purchase of 26 operational and security vehicles for the 13 newly created Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in the state.
“These vehicles are to support effective take-off and smooth operations of the LCDAs, which are scheduled to commence operations in January 2026,” he said.
Magaji explained that the approvals are part of the state government’s broader efforts to strengthen governance, enhance security and promote regional economic integration.
