Gombe-based legal practitioner, Ibrahim Ambore Nuhu, on Friday formally withdrew his petition alleging compulsory extortion of members of the public by officers of the Nigerian Army, Sector 1, at Lalaipido (Leggal) Market in Shomgom Local Government Area and Kalmai in Billiri Local Government Area of Gombe State.

Nuhu, in a statement made available to PERISCOPE NIGERIA, said the decision followed interventions by community leaders and senior members of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA).
“I have withdrawn my petition dated 28th January, 2026, against officers of the Nigerian Army, Sector 1, Billiri LGA, Gombe State,” he said.
He recalled that the petition was initially submitted to seek urgent intervention over what he described as compulsory extortion of traders and members of the public within the affected communities.
“The petition was written to draw attention to complaints by members of the public over alleged compulsory extortion at Lalaipido (Leggal) Market, Shomgom LGA, and Kalmai in Billiri LGA,” Nuhu explained.
According to him, the matter has now been resolved following dialogue and assurances from relevant stakeholders.
“Due to the intervention of respected community leaders and senior members of my association, the Nigerian Bar Association, the issues raised have been amicably addressed,” he stated.
Nuhu added that the withdrawal was made in the interest of peace and harmony in the affected areas.
“In view of the positive engagement and assurances received, I have decided to withdraw the petition in its entirety and allow peace to prevail,” he said.
He also expressed appreciation to all parties involved for their roles in resolving the matter through dialogue.
