The Gombe State Police Command has dismantled a suspected armed robbery syndicate operating within Pindiga District of Akko Local Government Area, arresting six suspects and recovering arms, ammunition and cash.
The arrests were made on January 29, 2026, at about 2:00pm, following what the police described as “credible intelligence” linked to an armed robbery and criminal conspiracy case.
According to a statement issued on Saturday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, the suspects include Babangida Gamji (25) of Fobawure Village, Billiri LGA; Dahiru Abdullahi (30) of Wawa Village, Funakaye LGA; Ahmadu Garba (21) from Song LGA of Adamawa State; Umaru Bubba, also known as Babuga (25).
Others include Isah Haruna (20), both from Dadin Kowa in Yemaltu-Deba LGA; and Unman Abdullahi (30) of Kaltungo LGA. Another suspect, Alhaji Sale Adamu, is currently at large.
DSP Abdullahi disclosed that investigations revealed the suspects attacked a victim in December 2025 at about 2:30am at his residence.
“The principal suspect, Babangida Gamji, alongside three other accomplices, allegedly assaulted the victim with a rifle and a cutlass and attempted to rob him of his motorcycle,” the police spokesperson said.
He added that although the victim managed to escape, the suspects later contacted him by phone and demanded ₦650,000, threatening him with serious harm.
“Out of fear for his life, the victim eventually paid the demanded amount,” Abdullahi stated.
Following a formal complaint, detectives launched an intensive investigation that led to the arrest of the principal suspect and five other accomplices.
Items recovered during the operation include one pump-action rifle, one locally fabricated LAR rifle, twelve rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition, one live cartridge, a cutlass, and ₦227,000 in cash.
The suspects are currently in police custody and undergoing further investigation, while efforts have been intensified to apprehend the fleeing suspect.
Commending the officers involved, the Commissioner of Police, Gombe State Command, CP Umar Ahmed Chuso, reassured residents of the Command’s resolve to sustain public safety.
“The Gombe State Police Command remains fully committed to protecting lives and property, and criminal elements will find no hiding place,” the Commissioner said.
The police assured that further developments would be communicated as investigations continue.
