The All Progressives Congress has on Saturday, peacefully conducted its Local Government Congress in Balanga Local Government Area of Gombe State through affirmation, with party leaders calling for unity, discipline and respect for party structures.
Speaking during the exercise held at the APC Secretariat in Tallasse, the Deputy Governor of Gombe State, Dr Manassah Daniel Jatau, commended the affirmed officials and urged them to uphold the ideals of the party while treating members with dignity and fairness.
He said leadership within the party entails listening to the concerns of members and channeling such issues through appropriate organs for necessary action.
This was contained in a press statement signed by Jack Tasha, Senior Special Assistant Media and Publicity Deputy Governor’s Office.
According to him, “Leadership is about showing concern for members and forwarding their grievances through the right channels for solutions. You must work assiduously and in harmony for the success of the party at all levels.”
The Deputy Governor also called on party faithful to respect constituted authority, remain law-abiding and always seek redress through established mechanisms. He urged members to pray for their leaders, noting that leadership is a huge responsibility that requires divine guidance and collective support.
He further advised the newly affirmed executives to run an inclusive administration that accommodates all tendencies within the party, stressing that consensus and dialogue remain the best tools for sustaining unity after an affirmation exercise.
Explaining the rationale for adopting affirmation, the Congress Coordinator, Abdulwahab Sabo, who is also the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Small Scale Businesses and Investment, said stakeholders agreed on the method to foster cohesion and avoid rancour.
He noted that the affirmation of the officials was a product of wide consultations and consensus among party leaders and should be accepted in good faith for the overall progress of the APC in the area.
