The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Gombe State Council, has distributed Ramadan food items to its members, courtesy of the North East Development Commission (NEDC).
The distribution, carried out through the Council’s 13 chapels, was aimed at supporting journalists and their families during the holy month of Ramadan.
Chairman of the NUJ in the state, Faruk Mu’azu, who announced the exercise to PERISCOPE NIGERIA, expressed appreciation to the NEDC for what he described as a timely intervention.
“We are deeply grateful to the North East Development Commission for this generous gesture,” he said. “This donation has come at a very important time, as our members observe the holy month of Ramadan. It will go a long way in supporting them and their families.”
The chairman commended the Commission for recognising the role of journalists in society, especially amid prevailing economic challenges.
“Journalists play a vital role in nation-building. Supporting them, particularly during challenging times, is highly commendable. We assure the NEDC of our continued partnership and cooperation,” he added.
He noted that the Council remains committed to prioritising the welfare of its members, stressing that the leadership will continue to engage relevant stakeholders to improve the well-being of journalists in the state.
The gesture was well received by members across the chapels, many of whom described the intervention as thoughtful and impactful.
The NEDC has continued to implement developmental and humanitarian interventions across the North-East, with the support to journalists in Gombe seen as part of its broader commitment to improving livelihoods in the region.
