The academic depot: Why Prof. Julius Ihonvbere’s third term is a funeral for Owan democracy, by Dr Oto Drama

The greatest tragedy of the African political landscape is not the illiterate tyrant, but the “Scholar-Dictator”—the man who spends decades teaching the Theory of Exit in the ivory towers of the West, only to practice the Praxis of Entrenchment at home. As 2027 approaches, Professor Julius Ihonvbere is no longer just a representative; he has become a roadblock.

By the end of this term, Owan West will have exhausted its eight-year moral quota. To suggest a third term is not “continuity”—it is an act of political narcissism that seeks to reduce the proud people of Owan East to the status of a conquered colony.

The PhD as a Political Mask

It is a staggering hypocrisy. How does a man who built a global reputation lecturing on “Constitutionalism” and “Democratisation” become the primary architect of tenure elongation in his own backyard? The irony is not just thick; it is insulting. One must wonder if the Professor left his democratic principles at the airport the moment he returned to Owan.

The “Gentleman’s Agreement” of rotation is the only thread holding our fragile peace together. By tugging at it for his own selfish gain, the Professor isn’t just seeking an office; he is unraveling the social fabric of Owan Land.

An Era of High Grammar and Low Impact

We are told he is the “Majority Leader.” We see him in the front rows of the National Assembly, draped in the optics of Abuja power. But back home in Owan, the story is written in dust and decay:

The Bitumen Mirage: While the Professor engages in “high-level legislative oversight,” our roads remain death traps. Apparently, “Legislative Experience” cannot pave a single kilometer of road in the rural wards of Owan.

Tokenism vs. Transformation: Our youth have been fed the crumbs of “empowerment” schemes—temporary handouts that mask the structural abandonment of Owan’s future.

The Palace Professor: He has successfully transitioned from a man of the people to a man of the “Palace,” more concerned with his standing in the Abuja hierarchy than the biting hunger and insecurity of the Owan farmer.

The Verdict: Time to Teach the “Theory of Exit”

A third term is a political cancer. It tells every vibrant, capable leader in Owan East that they are secondary citizens—unworthy and unfit to lead. It suggests that in a constituency of hundreds of thousands, only one “indispensable” man has the wisdom to govern. This is the classic hallmark of a dictator in a scholar’s gown.

Professor Ihonvbere, the sun is setting. History is a cold judge of those who sacrifice their honor on the altar of “one more term.” You have mastered the art of Political Recycling, repackaging failure as “experience,” but the people are no longer buying the stale bread of your academic rhetoric.

The verdict is final:

2027 belongs to Owan East. This is not a request; it is a debt of honor.

The APC is bigger than one man. We will not allow “unremitting greed” to sink the party’s chances in Edo State.

Exit is the only Legacy. Pack your bags, Professor. Go back to the classroom and teach the “Theory of Exit,” because you have failed the “Praxis of Service.”

Owan Land is not a personal fiefdom. The third term agenda is not just dead; it is buried under the weight of its own hypocrisy.
