The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Gombe State Command, has partnered with the Nigeria Union of Mine Workers (NUMW), Gombe State Chapter, to curb illegal mining activities across the state.
The collaboration was sealed during a courtesy visit by the Chairman of NUMW in Gombe, Comrade Engr. Muhammad Sada Yahaya, to the State Commandant of NSCDC, Commandant Jibrin Idris, where discussions focused on strengthening enforcement, improving safety standards, and enhancing security across mining sites.
Speaking during the meeting, Commandant Idris reaffirmed the Corps’ resolve to clamp down on illegal operators.
This was contained in a press statement signed on Monday by CSC Buhari Saad.
“Illegal mining remains a serious threat to our environment, the safety of citizens, and the economic interests of the state. The NSCDC is fully committed to working with the Nigeria Union of Mine Workers and other critical stakeholders to ensure that only lawful and responsible mining activities thrive in Gombe State,” he said.
He added that the Command would intensify surveillance and enforcement operations to ensure compliance with mining regulations.
In his remarks, Comrade Yahaya commended the NSCDC for its proactive stance and pledged the union’s cooperation.
“We appreciate the Command for its readiness to collaborate with us. As a union, we are committed to supporting every effort aimed at eliminating illegal mining, protecting the welfare of mine workers, and promoting best practices in the sector,” he stated.
Both parties expressed optimism that the strengthened partnership would enhance safety, improve regulatory compliance, and contribute meaningfully to the sustainable development of Gombe State’s mining industry.
