The Senate of Bayero University, Kano (BUK), has approved the immediate expulsion of 171 students for presenting falsified admission credentials.
The decision was taken at the university’s 433rd Senate meeting held on March 4, 2026, following the outcome of an investigation conducted by the Senate Committee on Entry Qualification Irregularities.
According to a statement published in the institution’s weekly bulletin dated March 20, 2026, the committee uncovered widespread discrepancies in the qualifications submitted by the affected students during their admission process.
The university management described the offence as a serious violation of Section 20.7, Category A (vii) of its General Examinations and Academic Regulations (GEAR), which prescribes expulsion as the penalty for such academic misconduct.
The affected students cut across different faculties and academic levels, underscoring what the university described as a comprehensive effort to uphold the integrity of its admission system.
In a related development, the Senate also approved the expulsion of Yusuf Muhammad Sani, a Civil Engineering student, for assaulting invigilators during an examination.
The university said his actions disrupted the conduct of the examination and contravened its regulations on student discipline.
Reaffirming its stance, the management stressed that it maintains a zero-tolerance policy toward academic fraud and misconduct, warning that any violation of its rules will attract strict sanctions.
The institution added that the mass expulsion should serve as a strong warning to both current and prospective students to adhere strictly to its academic and behavioural standards.
