Unknown gunmen on Friday night abducted the Secretary of Kibiya Local Government Area of Kano State, Alhaji Hamza Musa Durba.
The incident reportedly occurred in Dinya town, located in Durba Ward of Kibiya LGA, when the assailants stormed the official’s residence.
Security sources said the attackers, about six in number, arrived on motorcycles and were heavily armed, but did not fire any shots during the operation.
A security official in the area, Malam Musa Hussaini Ibrahim, confirmed the incident, noting that the gunmen carried out the attack swiftly.
“The attackers came quietly and operated with precision. They gained access to the house without drawing much attention,” he said.
Eyewitnesses said members of the victim’s family were present at the time but were left unharmed, as the gunmen reportedly targeted only the local government official.
Residents described the incident as alarming, expressing concern over what they termed the growing boldness of criminal elements in rural communities.
“It is frightening that such an operation could happen without a single gunshot. People are worried about their safety,” a resident said.
Following the abduction, security agencies were alerted and have reportedly launched efforts to rescue the victim and track down the perpetrators.
As of the time of filing this report, authorities had yet to disclose the motive behind the incident, although sources linked it to the rising cases of kidnapping for ransom in parts of northern Nigeria.
Efforts to obtain a reaction from the police were unsuccessful, as multiple calls to the Kano State Police Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, went unanswered. He also did not respond to a WhatsApp message sent as of the time of filing this report.
