The Minister of Transportation, Said Alkali, on Tuesday resigned from his position to pursue his gubernatorial ambition ahead of the forthcoming elections.

The resignation was confirmed in a statement signed by Umar Jibril, Special Assistant on Media and Publicity in the Office of the Minister of Transportation.
His resignation, which has been formally submitted to the Presidency, follows a directive by President Bola Tinubu mandating all political appointees seeking elective offices to step down from their roles.
In his resignation letter, Alkali expressed gratitude to the President for the opportunity to serve, highlighting key achievements recorded in the transportation sector during his tenure.
“I am deeply honoured to have served in this capacity and remain grateful to Mr. President for the confidence reposed in me. I am proud of the progress we have made in advancing Nigeria’s transportation sector,” he said.
He added that his decision to resign was in line with the directive and his desire to pursue a new mandate.
Following the development, President Tinubu accepted the resignation and commended the outgoing minister for his service to the nation.
“The President appreciates Senator Alkali’s dedication and contributions to national development and wishes him success in his future endeavours,” a statement from the Presidency noted.
