Eight officials have emerged as zonal leaders of the North-East following the conclusion of the zonal congress of the All Progressives Congress (APC), with key positions filled across critical portfolios to steer the affairs of the party in the region.

Among those elected are Mr Idris Shuaibu as Zonal Vice Chairman and Mr Baba Ali as Zonal Secretary. Also elected is Mr Tako Dauda, who will serve as Zonal Legal Adviser, alongside Mr Nitte Amangal, who assumes office as Zonal Publicity Secretary. Mr Joseph Muadali was elected as Zonal Youth Leader, reflecting the party’s commitment to youth inclusion in its leadership structure.

In addition, Hajiya Lumbi Abubakar emerged as Zonal Women Leader, while Mr Haruna Tata was elected as Zonal Leader for Persons with Disabilities, underscoring efforts to ensure inclusivity within the party. Completing the list is Abubakar Musa, who will serve as Zonal Organising Secretary.

The emergence of the eight officials is expected to strengthen the party’s coordination and grassroots mobilisation across the North-East geopolitical zone, comprising Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Taraba and Yobe states.

The congress drew party members and stakeholders from the six states of Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Taraba, and Yobe, many of whom were dressed in APC colours.
Governors of Gombe and YobeMuhammadu Yahaya and Mai Buni led the gathering, alongside their counterparts, Ahmadu Fintiri and Kefas Agbu, who recently defected to the party.

They were joined by former governors, serving and former members of the National Assembly, ministers, and other party faithful, including former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha.

In his remarks, Buni described the North-East as a bastion of democracy and urged party members to remain united ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“The North-East zone is the home of democracy, and this has been demonstrated in our democratic processes. We must sustain unity and loyalty to ensure victory in future elections,” he said.
The adoption of the consensus model for electing zonal leaders was initiated by former Senate President, Ahmed Lawan, and seconded by the Majority Whip of the House of Representatives, Usman Kumo.
“I have the privilege to move the motion that the delegates approve the consensus candidates for our zonal offices to ensure that everyone is duly elected. I so move,” Lawan said.
Kumo, in his contribution, added:
“I second the motion moved by my leader.”
Following the adoption of the consensus process, the list of the new eight-member zonal executive was presented and approved.

In his valedictory speech, the outgoing North-East APC Zonal Vice Chairman, Salihu Mustapha, said the leadership was leaving behind a stronger and more united party.

“We are handing over a North-East geopolitical zone that has become an APC stronghold. The unity we have built will continue to strengthen the party,” he said.

He expressed optimism that the party would maintain its dominance in the region.

“With the level of unity and commitment among members, the APC in the North-East is more united than ever and well-positioned for future electoral success,” he added.

The party also reaffirmed its support for the administration of Bola Tinubu, expressing confidence in securing victory in the 2027 general elections.
