The President of the Nigerian Bar Association, Afam Osigwe, has paid glowing tribute to Folake Solanke on the occasion of her 94th birthday, describing her as a trailblazer whose legacy continues to inspire generations of legal practitioners.
Solanke, who made history as Nigeria’s first female Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), was celebrated for her outstanding contributions to the legal profession and her pioneering role in advancing opportunities for women in law.
In a goodwill message on Sunday, Osigwe said Solanke’s elevation to the prestigious rank of SAN marked a turning point in Nigeria’s legal history.
“Your elevation to the Inner Bar was not merely a personal milestone; it was a historic breakthrough that opened doors, shattered barriers, and inspired generations of women in the legal profession to aspire boldly and achieve exceptionally,” he said.
He further praised her enduring impact, noting that her life remains a symbol of excellence, resilience, and dedication to justice.
“At 94, your life stands as a testament to resilience, purpose, and enduring excellence. Your contributions to the legal profession and your pioneering role continue to illuminate the path for countless lawyers, particularly women,” Osigwe added.
The NBA president also highlighted Solanke’s influence on the profession, stating that her legacy continues to shape the aspirations of younger lawyers across the country.
“As you mark this extraordinary milestone, we celebrate a life of impact, a legacy of leadership, and a journey defined by grace and distinction,” he said.
He prayed for her continued good health and long life, expressing hope that she would witness the lasting impact of her contributions to the legal profession.
“May your years continue to be blessed with good health, peace, and the joy of witnessing the enduring influence of your remarkable legacy,” Osigwe said.
Folake Solanke remains one of the most revered figures in Nigeria’s legal community, widely acknowledged for breaking barriers and setting standards of excellence in the profession.
