North-Eastern University (NEU) is expanding its partnership with the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to provide corps members with enhanced skills training, employment opportunities, and career development.
The pledge came during a visit by Gombe State NYSC Coordinator Chinwe Nnenna Nwachuku and her team to the campus.
Pro-Chancellor and Founder Dr. Sani Jauro, also the called NYSC “one of Nigeria’s most vital national projects,” crediting it with knitting together people from every corner of the country.
He thanked the coordinator for fast-tracking a medical doctor to the university after a quick request, saying the support arrived “in record time.” Now, Dr. Jauro wants to take things further—especially in entrepreneurship.
NEU runs its own Directorate of Entrepreneurship, where students learn real-world skills to start businesses and build wealth.
With the NYSC Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development Centre just next door, he sees a perfect setup for joint workshops, bootcamps, and hands-on training that could lift both students and corps members.
The university already hires standout corps members who shine during service.
“We keep the best,” Dr. Jauro said, adding that NEU funds postgraduate studies—master’s, PhDs—for those who stay, grooming tomorrow’s professors and leaders.
He also opened the doors to NEU’s top-notch sports grounds: an Olympic-size football pitch, 400-meter track, and courts for basketball, volleyball, badminton, and more.
“Use them,” he told the NYSC team—perfect for corps competitions or fitness drives.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Yusuph Amuda Yahaya welcomed the group, stressing how the link will smooth NYSC registration for NEU’s first graduating class.
“We want every final-year student ready and active in national service.”
Coordinator Nwachuku praised NEU’s focus on youth and its open arms to corps members.
“We’ll keep sending dedicated people here,” she promised, “and we’ll work together on skills, startups, and community projects.”
The move underscores NEU’s rise as Gombe’s go-to private university—once Pen Resource University—now a hub for practical education and youth empowerment.
