The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has constituted a caretaker committee to oversee the affairs of its Abia State chapter for a period of 90 days pending the election of a new state executive.
The decision was announced in a statement issued by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, who said the appointment was approved by the National Working Committee (NWC) on behalf of the National Executive Committee (NEC).
According to him, the action was taken in line with Section 29(2)(b) of the PDP Constitution (2025 as amended).
He named Mr. Ikpegbu Emeka-Yellow as chairman of the committee, while Chief Ochiobi Fidel Chukwuemeka, Engr. Gladys Okoro, Chief Chijindu Kalu, Samuel Chukwudi Mike, Hon. Seth Agomuo, Mrs. Ugo Kalu and Barr. Obinna Nwaogwugwu will serve as members.
Felix Nwagbara was appointed as secretary of the committee.
Ememobong explained that the committee had been mandated to manage the affairs of the party in the state in accordance with the provisions of the party’s constitution.
“The National Working Committee of our great party, the Peoples Democratic Party, on behalf of the National Executive Committee, has approved the appointment of a caretaker committee to oversee the affairs of the party in Abia State,” he said.
He added that the committee would function within the limits of the party’s rules and relevant laws of the country.
“The committee is charged with the responsibility of running the affairs of the party in Abia State as stipulated in Section 21(2)(a-b) of our party’s constitution for a period not exceeding 90 days or until a new executive is elected,” Ememobong stated.
He further noted that members of the committee were expected to strictly adhere to the provisions of the PDP Constitution (2025 as amended), the Electoral Act 2022 and the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in carrying out their assignment.
The PDP leadership expressed confidence that the caretaker committee would ensure stability in the state chapter while preparations are made for the emergence of a new executive.
