The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has criticised the National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Felix Morka, over his claim that the opposition party has ceased to exist as a political force.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, described Morka’s remarks as “unfortunate and delusional,” accusing the ruling party of orchestrating defections from the opposition.
Ememobong said the APC was attempting to weaken the PDP through what he described as “force and inducement,” insisting that Nigerians had continued to reject the ruling party despite the defections of some political office holders.
“We have read a statement credited to the National Publicity Secretary of the APC claiming that the Peoples Democratic Party is no longer a political party because of the defection of some political office holders — a strategy curated and executed by the APC itself,” he said.
“This statement is most unfortunate and a clear indication that Morka and his cohorts are clearly delusional.”
According to the PDP spokesman, the APC has struggled to gain genuine public support despite controlling the federal government.
“Reality shows that despite the large-scale defections secured by force and inducement by the APC, Nigerians have consistently rejected the ruling party which is daily ruining Nigeria and Nigerians,” Ememobong said.
He also alleged irregularities in the ruling party’s membership registration process, claiming that some state governments used existing social intervention databases to inflate their party registers.
“In many states, governors have copied the database of state empowerment programmes to populate their membership registers,” he alleged.
Ememobong further referenced a recent disruption at a political gathering in Owerri, which he said was an indication of growing dissatisfaction with the ruling party across the country.
The PDP spokesman also criticised Morka personally, accusing him of engaging in propaganda in defence of the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“For Morka, who is struggling to become a modern-day Joseph Goebbels, he should remember that delusional propaganda does not just destroy a nation but ultimately consumes its proponents,” he said.
Ememobong warned that those defending what he described as the failures of the current administration would be judged harshly by history.
“When the history of this period is written and the mortal threat to democracy is documented, his name will be boldly written in the pages of infamy as one of those who actively defended the Tinubu maladministration,” he added.
