Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has reaffirmed his commitment to deepening democratic governance by aligning with the aspirations of the people, pledging support for the quest by stakeholders in Yamaltu/Deba Local Government Area to produce the next senator for Gombe Central in 2027.

The governor made the pledge on Thursday while receiving a delegation from Yamaltu/Deba at the Government House, Gombe.
The delegation comprised traditional rulers, community leaders, politicians across party lines, technocrats, as well as youth and women groups.
Speaking on behalf of the group, the delegation appealed for the governor’s backing to actualise their demand for equitable representation in the Gombe Central Senatorial District, currently represented by Mohammad Danjuma Goje.
They argued that the senatorial seat has remained in Akko Local Government Area for a prolonged period, stressing the need for equity, fairness and inclusivity in the distribution of political offices within the district.
Responding, Governor Yahaya assured the delegation of his support, describing their demand as legitimate and deserving of attention.
“I assure you that necessary steps will be taken to ensure equity, fairness and justice—not only in your local government but across Gombe State and Nigeria. By the grace of God, your aspiration will receive a positive outcome,” he said.
He emphasised that democracy must reflect the will of the people, adding that inclusivity remains central to his administration’s governance philosophy.
“Democracy is a government of the people, by the people and for the people. In strengthening our democratic culture, we have embraced a rotational understanding that ensures every group feels included,” the governor added.
Yahaya further noted that both the state government and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) are aligned with the demand, describing it as justified.
He commended the delegation for formally presenting their appeal to Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the APC National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda.
Drawing parallels with past political arrangements in the state, the governor cited the experience of Gombe South Senatorial District, where unity and adherence to democratic principles influenced political outcomes.
He urged the Yamaltu/Deba people to remain united, peaceful and law-abiding in their pursuit.
Earlier, key members of the delegation—including the member representing Yamaltu/Deba Federal Constituency, Hon. Inuwa Garba; state lawmakers Hon. Adamu Pata (Yamaltu East) and Hon. Muhammad Kabir Kuri (Deba Constituency); the council chairman, Abubakar Hassan Difa; and the Emirs of Yamaltu and Deba—presented a strong case for the rotation of the Gombe Central Senatorial seat to Yamaltu/Deba.
