Popular Nigerian comedian, Basketmouth, has spoken candidly about the circumstances that led to the end of his marriage, describing the decision to walk away as one of the most difficult of his life.
Reflecting on the 12 years he spent in the union, the entertainer said he never imagined it would end the way it did, noting that the marriage produced three children and a home they built together.
“I spent 12 solid years in that marriage, never imagining it would end this way. We built a home together and are blessed with three amazing children,” he said.
He revealed that a major turning point came after he discovered through a DNA test that his first child is not biologically his—a revelation he described as deeply painful and emotionally overwhelming.
“The turning point for me came when I uncovered a painful truth through a DNA test—that my first child isn’t biologically mine. That discovery hit me in a way I can’t fully describe,” he stated.
According to him, the situation triggered intense emotions, including doubt and confusion, which he was not prepared to handle.
“It brought doubt, confusion, and a flood of emotions I wasn’t prepared for,” he added.
Basketmouth said despite investing his time, energy, and commitment into the marriage, he ultimately chose to prioritise his well-being.
“I poured my heart, time, and everything I had into that union, but some realities are too heavy to ignore,” he said. “In the end, I had to put my well-being first and accept what I couldn’t change, no matter how difficult it was.”
