The Senator representing Gombe South, Anthony Siyako-Yaro, has resigned his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing internal leadership disputes and legal uncertainties at the national level.

In a resignation letter dated April 18, 2026, and addressed to the PDP Chairman of Gelengu Ward, the lawmaker said his decision takes immediate effect.

“I write to inform you of the withdrawal of my membership of the Peoples Democratic Party with immediate effect. This is basically due to leadership tussles of the party at the national level that leads to uncertainty with the pending Supreme Court appeal,” he stated.
Describing the move as difficult, Yaro expressed appreciation to the party for the platform it provided him to emerge victorious in the 2023 general election.
“In doing this, it took excruciating pains to arrive at this decision. I therefore remain indebted and ever grateful for the opportunity and privilege the party gave me, which enabled me to successfully contest the 2023 election to represent the good people of Gombe South Senatorial District in the 10th Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” he said.
The senator, who serves as Vice Chairman of the Senate Committee on Diaspora and NGOs, added that his decision was influenced by ongoing internal crises within the party.
“The Book of Ecclesiastes 3:1-9 clearly states that there is a time for everything. Therefore, the time has come for me to formally inform you of my resignation from the PDP owing to the leadership tussle and a plethora of legal matters,” he added.
He further noted that the decision followed wide consultations with key stakeholders.
“After due consultations with my family, political associates, friends and constituents, we took this painful decision to explore fuller realisation of democratic objectives for the benefit of our people,” Yaro said.
While wishing the PDP well, he expressed hope that the party would overcome its challenges.
“I remain profoundly grateful for the opportunities the party afforded me over the years and I wish it continued success in its future endeavours. I earnestly pray that these issues be resolved in the shortest possible time,” he said.
