Christians across Nigeria on Sunday marked Easter with solemn reflection and renewed spiritual commitment, bringing to a close the 40-day Lenten season.
At the Cathedral Church of the Advent, Abuja, large congregations gathered for a thanksgiving service presided over by the Primate of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), Most Rev. Henry Ndukuba.
Delivering a sermon titled “The Living Hope” from Matthew 28:1–10, Ndukuba highlighted the significance of the resurrection of Jesus Christ, describing Easter as a celebration of “great news and abiding gladness” for Christians worldwide.
According to a statement by Olamiti Lawrence Mofoluwaso obtained in Gombe, the Primate said the resurrection remains a defining moment in human history, offering believers the assurance of eternal hope.
He noted that Christ’s victory over death secures redemption and everlasting joy for all who believe.
Ndukuba described the Lenten season—marked by fasting and prayer—as a period of spiritual preparation and expectation, adding that the resurrection affirms that prayers offered in faith are heard and answered.
He urged Christians to reflect on the essence of life in Christ, stressing that His presence gives meaning and direction.
The Primate further called on the faithful to remain humble and steadfast in the face of life’s challenges.
He reaffirmed that Jesus Christ remains the enduring source of hope for believers and urged Christians to live in the fullness of that assurance.
